How I unwind: May Bourne, Midwife

Friday 09 December 2022

As a new mum, the opportunities to wind down and relax are few and far between... but a local midwife has shared her favourite ways to do just that.

May Bourne has been a midwife for eight years and founded Positive Birth Jersey, which offers both antenatal and postnatal, as well as hypnobirthing classes for parents in 2018.

She recently became a mum to her first baby, Flora, who is now eight months old.

While she has her hands full, May has shared how she likes to unwind...

I have...

...a long hot bath with some lovely bath products.

It's always been my go-to way to relax and, if I could, I'd have two or three baths a day - I love them so much!

I eat...

...home-cooked hearty food, particularly in the winter.

My favourite is a really good Sunday roast (my mum's is the best!). If it's the weekend, we'll indulge in a takeaway and our go-to is usually Thai or Indian.

I drink...

tea

...a strong cup of tea or glass of wine if I'm unwinding in the evening.

I listen to...

podcast

...podcasts!

It sounds strange, but I love listening to true crime podcasts. My favorites are 'Cold Case Files' and 'The Missing.'

I read...

sleep

...actually, I don't!

I don't have much time to really read anymore - I'm so occupied by my eight-month-old baby that by the time I'm ready for bed, I just want to go straight to sleep!

I go...

...sea swimming.

I have made a pledge to continue through the winter this year. I try and go at least once a week, usually at the weekends - my favourite spot is Archirondel because of the opportunity for a bacon sandwich and cup of tea after!
