Beaches, burritos, and beer... the owner of a small local business which focuses on self care has shared how she prioritises her own wellbeing.
Sunflower Souls is a small business with big dreams.
It's a business that's all about self-care, and its founder, Jessica May, could be considered the island's premier self-care guru. So who better to ask about what she does to look after herself?
Jessica tells Express about the wonders of walking on the beach, breakfast food and feel-good music...
...head to the beach. The beach is absolutely my happy place and always will be. There is something about being by the sea, walking on the sand, hearing the waves crashing in, watching the dogs running around, being the happiest they could be.
It just honestly sets my soul on fire. I feel calm, I feel happy, and I feel good. No matter what I'm going through, I just take myself down for a walk on the beach and everything seems to be put into place.
My all-time favourite beach in the whole entire world is Ouaisne Bay. It's just beautiful, even the cliff path walks, so you can see from the beach, the white sand beneath your toe-sies and the clear blue sea. There's nothing like it.
One of my other greatest passions in life is cooking, food, and serving my delicious goodness to my friends and family on the regular.
I absolutely love putting new dishes together, and also have always loved breakfast! Breakfast, you just can't go wrong with it. It's got everything you love in one place!
My favourite cuisine is Mexican food, I love making Mexican food, having been a vegetarian for about six years. Now there are so many amazing products, but years ago it wasn't so easy, so I loved creating the same meals with veggie products.
I don't drink often, but when I do, I am such a beer girl. There is nothing better than sitting in the sunshine with a cold freshly poured fizzy pint of Stella!
Other than that, I am obsessed with Diet Coke and a cuppa tea. I actually use two teabags in my cup of tea because the stronger the better! No sugar as I'm sweet enough!
Feel good music! The music that makes me feel good! Everyone that knows me knows that I love dancing and singing around my kitchen, the car or anywhere for that matter. You've gotta love a bit of Sean Paul, Missy Elliott, Lady Leshurr, garage, drum 'n' bass.
I also love, listening to deep healing and meditation music as I feel it's really healthy for your body. I love listening to it while I'm working or doing something that takes a lot of concentration. It really allows me to relax and be in the zone. I just love a mix of all the goodness!
Music is so healthy for your mental health and body. Don't ever be a shame to dance the night away, exactly how you want to.
I read a lot of books, varied books, starting from learning about astrology, the moon, spirituality, and diving deep into mental health.
I also love reading amazing people that I really aspire to have their mindsets such as the Vex King, Jay Shetty, and the Law of Attraction.
