Former Jersey Reds’ director of rugby Harvey Biljon – who led the side to last season’s Championship title – has taken up a short-term consultancy role with fourth-tier Rotherham Titans.
Earlier this month, Jersey’s only fully professional sports team abruptly stopped trading and then entered liquidation following an unsuccessful attempt to secure more Government funding.
The South African boss built up plenty of plaudits for his decade-long stint in Jersey and his appointment will be seen as a major coup for the National 2 North side.
Titans were a regular foe of the Reds for several seasons until they were relegated from the Championship in 2018.
The Yorkshire club currently sit second in the table behind Leeds Tykes but head coach Gary Pearce left the club by mutual agreement earlier this week.
Former dual-code Wales international Pearce joined Titans in January but his stay at Clifton Lane has lasted just nine months.
Titans have appointed Gareth Lewis, a former director of rugby at Huddersfield, as Pearce’s direct replacement with Biljon acting in a more advisory role.
There has been a certain level of player traffic over the years between Jersey and Rotherham, with the Reds’ longest-serving player Max Argyle arriving from the Titans in 2016.
