Up to £40,000 is up for grabs for charities and people wanting to help improve Guernsey’s environment, as a grant reopened for the sixth year.
The Strategy for Nature Fund provides financial support for environmental initiatives in Guernsey.
Jim Robinson, the States’ Director of the Natural Environment, said: “Over the last 5 years the Strategy for Nature Fund has supported many fantastic projects that not only benefit nature but also the community as a whole.
“Being able to support local individuals and charities deliver important projects and also help to deliver the Strategy for Nature is a core principle of the fund.
“As in previous years we are excited to see what proposals will come forward from the community.”
Last year, 11 projects and two students were supported by the fund.
Projects ranged from beach cleans and land management initiatives to feral ferret monitoring, enhancing school grounds for nature and analysing the impact of projected sea level rises, amongst others.
Of the £40,000 it gives in grants each year, £9,000 is earmarked as a bursary for a university student to carry out data-collection for their research in Guernsey.
Applicants must offer projects that help to address the drivers of change in the natural environment identified in the State of Nature 2024 report. These include: pollution, climate change and invasive non-native species.
The deadline for applications is Sunday 25 October.
Angela Salmon, from the Nature Commission, said: “We would encourage individuals, organisations and students to apply for funding if they have a project that needs a financial boost to get it up and running.”
She said business could also “boost” the fund, through the ‘Nature Opportunities for Businesses initiative’.
More information about the fund, how to apply and application forms can be found on the Nature Commission’s website.
