Today is International Men’s Day, and one organisation is looking to raise awareness around the shocking number of male suicides in Guernsey.

Quoting official statistics from the States of Guernsey’s 2024 Mortality Report, organisers state that 76% of suicides are by men.

To help raise awareness and show support, a walk is being held this evening, starting at 18:00 at the Mocca Coffee Shop in Guernsey’s Old Quarter.

The group will make their way to Bulwer Avenue.

Once the walk has finished, those taking part are invited to take a bus ride back into town, to meet for a coffee at Sorrento on the Quay.

Ahead of the event, organisers said: “In Guernsey, 76% of suicides are men. That number is more than a statistic. It’s a call to action.

“This year, The Wild Wolf is calling to bring together 76 men, and the ones who love them, to step forward, walk together, and stand as a symbol of hope and change.

“Every man on this walk represents another life that matters. Another reminder that connection, courage, and community can save lives.

“We walk for those we’ve lost, we walk for those still finding their way, and we walk to remind every man: you’re not alone – and you don’t have to face the dark alone.”
