Artists are invited to submit their best arboreal artwork to a group exhibition.

The exhibition is hosted by Art for Guernsey who are asking for the island’s artists to celebrate Guernsey’s iconic trees.

David Ummels, Founder and Chairman of Art for Guernsey, said: “Over the last 10 years we have tirelessly celebrated the landscapes and seascapes of Guernsey, and the very special sources of inspiration that the island never fails to provide.”

The Iconic Guernsey Tree exhibition will begin on 11 November. Artists are asked to present their work for consideration to appear in the exhibition by midday on Friday 23 October.

All mediums – whether that be painting and drawing, sculpture and ceramics, textiles, installations, sculpture and photograhy – are welcome for submission.

The only requirement is that their subject is trees. Works may respond to individual trees, grouyps of trees, woodlands or engage with themes like memory, ecology, heritage and belonging.

Mr Ummels added: “For a few years we have been thinking about shining a light on Guernsey’s trees. We don’t have that many, but some of those we have are truly magnificent.

“As we have observed how dear they are to islanders, we felt that it would be a good subject for a show, and we are delighted to bring that to fruition in November.”

Entry costs £10 per artwork, which will go towards Art for Guernsey’s community and education projects.

The exhibition will begin in November and all featured work will be presented for sale, unless agreed otherwise.

The exhibition is being supported by Praxis, a professional services firm.

Ciaran O’Neill, Managing Director of Praxis in Guernsey, said: “Guernsey’s iconic trees provide a sense of place, history and continuity for generations.

“We’re delighted to support this exhibition, which not only showcases the work of talented artists but also celebrates an important part of Guernsey’s natural heritage.

“As a business with deep roots in the island, supporting our community and local culture is very important to us.”

Artists can express their interest in entering their artwork to the exhibition or ask questions by emailing ava@artforguernsey.com.
