Guernsey Airport will open slightly earlier than usual on Friday morning, to accommodate the additional passengers travelling ahead of the Island Games.

The airport usually has around 250 people flying out of the island during the early part of the day, but at least an extra 150 will be flying up to Orkney as part of Team Guernsey.

Guernsey Ports said opening early will be helpful for everyone who needs to make their way through the terminal for the red eye and subsequent flights.

Check in desks will be open from 05:15 – rather than 05:30 – which the Head of Passenger Operations & Aviation Security at Guernsey Ports, said will help ease congestion.

“We’re pleased to be supporting our Island Games Team as they head off to represent Guernsey,” said Steve Langlois.

“By opening the terminal earlier, we aim to reduce pressure on passengers and staff during a particularly busy period. We’re asking all passengers travelling on early morning flights this Friday to allow extra time for their journey through the airport.”

There are around 10 early morning departures between 06:00 and 10:00 daily, with additional charter flights taking members of Team Guernsey to Scotland on Friday morning.

Some of the Team Guernsey competitors and coaches will be flying with large kit bags.

Passengers who can, should check-in online in advance.
