Drink & Draw: Celebrating 5 Years

Popular life drawing group, Drink and Draw, are celebrating their 5 Year Anniversary with a community exhibition!

Opening at the George Crossan Gallery this Saturday the 11th October and running until the 9th of November, the exhibition is a showcase of fabulous works created by local artists and life drawing enthusiasts.

As part of the celebrations, Drink & Draw will also be offering a number of free workshops, taking place on the day of the opening.

The workshops are designed to cater to specific groups that Caitlin believes would benefit most from life drawing.

9am – Retirement age

11am – LGBTQ+

1pm – People who haven’t drawn since childhood

3pm – Aspiring art students

All materials provided and no experience needed. Please only book onto the time that fits your personal circumstances.

The exhibition and workshops have been made possible by funding from Guernsey Arts.

Drink & Draw is a weekly life drawing club running every Wednesday upstairs at The Golden Lion.

Meet the puppets!

James Kitts’ ‘Shrouded Isles of Sarnia’ exhibition comes alive this Sunday the 12th of October!

Over the last 6 weeks, Guernsey Arts has been host to some fantastical creatures as part of James Kitts’ “The Shrouded Isles of Sarnia” exhibition, creating an immersive space to discover them and the stories of skekSalt. 

To celebrate the final day of this exhibition, James will be joining his creations to bring them to life and invites the public to discover the world through skekSalts journals.

James will be in the Greenhouse Gallery at Guernsey Museums at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm for performances with the puppets, and to talk about his work.

Performances are free with normal museum admission (free with a Discovery Pass).

HMS Pinafore: The National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company

Save the date… The National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company are returning to Guernsey for HMS Pinafore!

Following their sold out performance of Pirates of Penzance in 2023, The national Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company are coming back for two nights only at the Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts.

Both performances, taking place on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th October, will start at 7pm.

Sarnia Arts & Crafts Club Winter Exhibition

It’s a big weekend for visual arts, as Sarnia Arts & Crafts Club take to Sula Gallery for their annual Winter Exhibition!

Opening this Friday the 10th of October, the exhibition showcases the work of club members (and provides an excellent opportunity for some early Christmas Shopping!)

Vote for your favourite two pieces and support local artists. Free Entry.

Sula Gallery is open from 10am-5.30pm, Monday-Saturday.

SWALLOW RECITALS PRESENTS: SONGS OF ICE & FIRE

The Swallow Recitals are back at St James next Thursday the 16th of October from 7:30pm.

Featuring a wonderful programme of classical music, the performance invites listeners on a rich musical journey bridging Nordic lyricism and German high-romanticism.

Alan West and ‘Syncopated!

Syncopated! is the new name for ‘Sounds of Jazz’ which have been playing in the island for a number of years. 

This Friday the 10th of October, they’ll be taking to the stage of St Saviours Church!

The band’s membership has not changed, but the genres played have broadened.

Still under the leadership of Alan West, with vocals from Julia Jager, and a repertoire ranging from Fats Waller to Sting, Cole Porter to Crowded House, ‘Syncopated!’ will entertain you and cater for a wide range of tastes. 

The church will be fully dressed from Harvest Sunday the previous week… So lots of arrangements adorning every window cill and column! A bit of fruit or a vegetable or two around also! 

The concert will start at 7:30pm.

No tickets, free refreshments, retiring collection.

David Green Book Launch: The Big Secret of How

Coming up this weekend in the Frossard Theatre!

You’re invited to a Book Launch with David Green who will be launching his new book “The Big Secret Of How To Find Happy Meaningful Success”, as well as talking about how he found meaning through silence.

Taking place this Sunday the 12th of October from 6:30pm, David will be interviewed by Gillian Mabbett with books available to buy on the night.
