A local art club is celebrating its fifth birthday, and Guernsey Arts has taken notice, with a special exhibition arranged at the George Crossan Gallery.
‘Drink & Draw’ is also offering a series of free workshops as it celebrates the milestone.
During the five years, Drink & Draw has held 240 different sessions, and the club estimates that around 8,000 hours of drawing has taken place collectively by members.
The club says these sessions, which run weekly upstairs at the Golden Lion, have “fostered a supportive, inclusive community”.
The club, which holds body positivity, making art accessible, and wellbeing as its core values, also holds special sessions on location, including a life drawing session at Les Jaonnets Bay earlier this year.
Founder Caitlin Grupping created the club as a passion project, and was unsure if it would last a month. Now she says she is so moved to know that it has become somewhat of an art movement.
“You never know who might be up for it – and who might be up for it if you ask for the 5th or 10th time – people can take their time coming around to it. Seasoned models have found a peace with themselves that they may once have thought impossible.
“It is incredibly moving to be part of that journey and provided the safe space for it to happen.”
The free exhibition opens this evening, and is open until 5 November.
Public viewing is between 09.00 and 17.00, Monday through Saturday.
