Reading Group: Yellowface by R.F.Kuang
The Guille-Allès Library’s monthly reading group is back this Saturday November 8th from 3:30pm – 5pm.
This month, the group will discuss Yellowface by R.F. Kuang!
“Athena Liu is a literary darling. June Hayward is literally nobody.
But when June just happens to witness Athena die in a freak accident, she realises now is her chance to find fame.
So what if that means stealing her friend’s work?
So what if that means creating a new, racially ambiguous identity?
So what if a social media scandal is about to blow her cover?
As her lies mount up and threaten her stolen success, how far will June go to keep what she thinks she deserves…
This is one hell of a story. It’s just not hers to tell.”
This session will take place in the Dorey Room on the second floor.
Japanese Calligraphy Evening
Next Wednesday the 12th of November at Iris and Dora Studios, you’ll have the fabulous opportunity to experience the beauty of the ancient art of Japanese calligraphy, and produce your own hand drawn works using traditional methods.
Japanese calligraphy, known as “Shodo”, is one of the oldest surviving traditional Japanese artforms. Emerging in Japan in the 4th Century, the art of writing Kanji (Chinese characters) creates beauty through the careful use of space and character formation.
While focusing on the formation of the individual brush strokes in each Kanji, Shodo teaches deep concentration and mindfulness. By practicing Shodo, students can achieve improved focus and mental health, while also learning the history and meaning behind each Kanji.
All required course materials are provided for use during the session. These are of a high quality and have been imported directly from specialist suppliers in Japan.
This session, hosted by Gyokabai Studios will take place from 6pm – 8pm.

Moor Theatre’s Julius Caesar
Power. Persuasion. Betrayal.
Next Thursday the 13th of November, the talented team at Moor Theatre are back at the Holy Trinity Church with their latest production: Julius Caesar.
“In the turbulent world of ancient Rome, political ambition cuts deep and loyalty is tested to the core. When Caesar’s rise threatens the Republic, his closest allies plot an unthinkable act – one that will shake the foundations of power and ignite a battle for the soul of Rome.
Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar is a gripping political drama that speaks as fiercely today as it did 400 years ago – a timeless exploration of leadership, conscience, and the price of power.”
A total of three performances will take place from 7:30pm, on the 13th, 14th and 15th of November.
