ST JAMES DANCE FESTIVAL 2026
This weekend St James will be hosting their long-awaited annual Dance Festival! Taking place bank holiday weekend, 23rd and 24th of May. A Dance Weekend to remember, your perfect island getaway!
In 2026 we are celebrating 80 years from the first anniversary of the Liberation of Guernsey from German occupation, when live music started up again and Islanders came together in friendship, music and dance. Enjoy a Saturday of Lindy Hop & Liberty Tea Dance to celebrate! Hosted by The Melody Man (UK)
Saturday 23rd May:
Free Dance Classes – just turn up and dance!
10am – 11am: Introduction to the Lindy Hop
11am – 12am: New moves for Lindy ‘Improvers’
12am – 1pm: Introduction to Balboa
2pm – 3pm: Rock’n’Roll / Jive Conversion to the Lindy Hop and Swing Beat
And on Saturday evening from 7pm, enjoy live music from the Ding Dong Daddios, who regularly play at the famous Goodwood Revival Festival, bringing their upbeat versions of early Rock ‘n’ Roll, Jive and Swing numbers. A night to dress up, practice those new moves and let your hair down on the dance floor!
Sunday 24th May from 2pm – 5pm, you can enjoy a brand new event hosted by the legendary Melody Man (UK) from ‘Dancing through Time’. Mark and Hoc, well-known for period dances at events across the UK, such as Twinwoods, Riviera Swing and Humdingers, will entertain and lead us through some well-loved and fun novelty dances.
In between there will be live music from the Guernsey Jazz Orchestra featuring a variety of traditional Tea Dance music with an accent on vintage Swing. St James has one of the biggest dance spaces in Guernsey!
To enhance this elegant and atmospheric afternoon, you are encouraged to dress up in period clothes and will be rewarded with tea and cake!

The Listening Room with Alfie Weedon, Grace Athena and Rumpus
No distractions, no noise – just talented musicians sharing their songs the way they were meant to be heard.
Join for a cosy night of live music where every lyric matters and every melody fills the room, this Saturday the 23rd May from 7pm. Settle in, listen closely, and discover the stories behind the songs in an intimate atmosphere made for music lovers.

Guernsey singer/songwriter Grace is back with a fresh batch of original songs and a diverse range of covers from Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison to Erykah Badu and Francoise Hardy. Something old, something new, some songs you might have heard before and some you won’t.
Alfie Weedon
Brighton-based double bassist Alfie Weedon trained Classically then broadened in to the rest of the music world, studying with Cuban Double Bassist Michelle Salazar and living with Seckou Keita in Senegal. Since then he has performed internationally with artists including Michael Baker, Fred Hills Trio and AK Patterson. His cross genre training and poignant lyrics bring a refreshing, skilful and captivating mood to his audiences as he takes them on a journey with a warm and honest sincerity.
Rumpus
This brand‑new gypsy jazz trio—Sam Claxton on violin, Sam McKerrell on guitar, and Pip Orchard on double bass—delivers old‑world charm and classic Django‑inspired swing. Expect an intimate, upbeat sound that gets toes tapping.

Cobo Balcony Gigs 2026
The Cobo balcony gigs have become a major part of Guernsey summers over the past 30 years and bring a real carnival atmosphere to the Cobo seafront whilst raising much needed funds for local charities such as the Guernsey Cheshire Home.
This bank holiday weekend, Sunday the 24th May from 3pm, you can enjoy a fabulous tribute to Tina Turner supported by a tribute to Bryan Adams!

Candie Concerts
Guernsey Street Festival presents Candie Concerts!
Candie Concerts are free, weekly Sunday afternoon live music performances held in the scenic setting of Candie Gardens.
Running from May to September, 3pm-4pm, they showcase local talent including orchestras, choirs, and bands.

Heritage Spinning Demonstrations at the Folk and Costume Museum
Join our heritage spinners on the Courtyard at the Folk and Costume Museum for a series of relaxed, hands-on demonstrations throughout 2026.
Whether you’re curious about taking up a new hobby, eager to learn a traditional skill, or simply enjoy watching craftspeople at work, these mornings offer a wonderful glimpse into the island’s textile heritage – all set within the beautiful museum surroundings.
Demonstrations take place on Thursdays, 10am–12pm on the following dates:
28th May (scheduled to fall within half-term), 18th June, 16th July and 17th September.
If the weather is unfavourable, the demonstrations will move indoors so you can still enjoy the experience in comfort. Everyone is welcome – these events are free and the courtyard is access-friendly.

SAMPHIRE ENSEMBLE – SOUNDINGS
An immersive live music and multimedia performance comes to St James next Friday the 29th May.
The Samphire Ensemble, directed by David le Page, invites you to their immersive live music and multimedia performance, ‘Soundings’. The ensemble will take you on a journey around Guernsey’s coastline, capturing the character, atmosphere and stories of the island through sounds, imagery and classical performance.
Combining original compositions, classical and contemporary repertoire including Bowie, Radiohead, Hans Zimmer, Vivaldi and Grieg, field recordings from coastal locations, projected visuals and spoken word, Soundings explores the idea of where one thing becomes another – land and sea, past and present, noise and music.
Through music and projections, the Samphire Ensemble creates a rich, accessible and evocative portrait of Guernsey that invites you to experience the island as a living soundscape.
Get ready for an unforgettable experience, as the Samphire ensemble and St James invite you to sit back and immerse yourself in Soundings.
Doors open 7pm with Music from 8pm.
