Fox Art Competition 2026: SUBMISSIONS OPEN

Jersey Arts Centre and Guernsey Arts are calling on Channel Island artists from both Bailiwicks to be part of the island-wide Fox Open Art Competition 2026. The Fox Open Art Competition, sponsored by JJ Fox International Ltd, is now in its 44th year of supporting the connection of artists from between the Islands.

Winning and selected artworks will be exhibited at Jersey Arts Centre and The George Crossan Gallery Guernsey.

Each year sees a new judge, chosen from outside the Channel Islands for impartiality. This year’s Judge is Mary Kuper, artist, illustrator, and printmaker, whose work looks at the themes of language and poetry, people and places. Mary will also be hosting a workshop for Island students later in the year. (Mary Kuper – marykuper.com).

This year’s prizes total £2,000 and will be awarded to Channel Island-based artists who, in the opinion of the judge, have produced the most original work of art. This year’s prizes are £1,000 for the overall winner, £500 for the winner of the Jock Russell Award for 12 to 18 year olds and 5 prizes of £100 for 5 highly commended artists.

The competition is open to artists who are resident in the Bailiwick of Jersey, Bailiwick of Guernsey and who are aged 12 and over. Entrants may submit up to two works. Entry costs just £5 for adults and £1 for students.

You can enter using the ONLINE FORM or contact info@arts.gg with any issues entering or queries.

The closing date for entries is 5pm Tuesday 8 September 2026.

Think & Drink

A new event is coming to a pub near you, next Tuesday the 25th of August!

Marketing and design studio Segment are excited to announce the start of Think & Drink, and they’d love to tell you more about it.

Guernsey is full of people who know fascinating things: about the sea, the law, the past, the brain, the stars, the state of the world. Most of them never get asked to talk about it outside their day job, and most of us would happily listen if it didn’t involve a conference badge.

Think & Drink puts the two together. Short, engaging talks by people who really know their subject, given in a pub rather than a lecture hall. No jargon, no slides for the sake of slides, and no homework: the expertise stays up front with the speakers, and the rest of us just bring the curiosity. Ideas worth hearing, told well, with a drink in your hand.

The launch night is at the Golden Lion, and after that the venue may move around the town.

We start at 7pm and we wrap up around 9:30pm, though nobody rushes you out of the bar. Between and after the talks there’s time to put questions to the speakers and get into it with the people around you.

Entry is free. Tickets are released on Eventbrite ahead of each night. Secure yours today!

The North Show & Battle of Flowers 2026

The Guernsey North Show and Battle of Flowers has been one of the main outdoor events in Guernsey’s summer calendar for many years, and it returns next Wednesday the 26th and Thursday 27th of August!

Run by the Northern Agricultural and Horticultural Society, the event takes place in the wonderful leafy setting of Saumarez Park and attracts thousands of visitors every year.

The grounds open at 10am each day.

The North Show features displays of exhibitor entries, including the traditional livestock classes, such as Guernsey cattle, goats and agricultural produce. In more recent years, the North Show’s emphasis has shifted to encourage more amateur involvement, with many entries in the fur and feather classes, cut flowers, fruit and vegetables, flower arranging, cakes and baking, and the craft classes, such as wood or metalworking, embroidery and photography.

The Battle of Flowers takes place in the afternoon of the second day, and spectators can take part in judging the colourful floats, which are all competing for the coveted “Prix d’honneur”. The Battle culminates in the evening’s illuminated cavalcade, rounded off with a spectacular firework display.

Tickets are available on the door.
