Discoveries from the Shrouded Isles of Sarnia by James Kitts
The latest Greenhouse Gallery exhibition is just around the corner…
Opening this Saturday the 30th of August and running until the 12th of October, ‘Discoveries from The Shrouded Isles of Sarnia’ is a narrative surrounding new Island Folklore.
Artist James Kitts has developed a new mythology of magical creatures, a set of which he has built practically as lifesized puppets.
The creature skekSalt has voyaged far to uncover the mysteries of the rumoured hidden realm, Sarnia. This realm, if the stories are true, exists right on top of Guernsey, on a different plane of existence. Only those who find themselves adrift in the fog can slip beyond the veil into this realm of uncanny fantastical creatures.
James is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker from Cornwall, now living in Guernsey.
In recent years James has focused on puppetry as an artistic medium which has presented him with many opportunities to perform with his creations. His most popular being skekSalt, a skeksis puppet/costume inspired by the 1982 film The Dark Crystal.
This exhibition is certainly not one to be missed.
The Greenhouse Gallery, located within Candie Museum, is open daily from 10am – 5pm. Tickets can be obtained from the front desk, and are free with the Discovery Pass.

Radio Silence
Radio Silence is a brand-new musical set against the backdrop of the Occupation of Guernsey in World War Two, taking place next week at the Princess Royal Centre for the Performing Arts.
This story examines the complex relationships of oppressor and the oppressed, thrown together in a situation not of their choosing, and highlights the resilience of the Guernsey folk who stayed behind when thousands were evacuated.
Set against real historical events, Radio Silence explores the universal themes of communication, good and evil and what freedom means to us all. Although firmly set in 1940s Guernsey, the story is just as relevant today as we try to navigate a world more polarised than ever. At its heart, Radio Silence celebrates our Island spirit. Created by international award winning Guernsey artists Laura Simpson and Lydia Jane Pugh, this captivating musical is a deeply human story of love, loss and loyalty and asks: What would you risk to resist?
There will be just four shows between Thursday the 28th and Saturday the 30th of August. Don’t miss your chance to see this enthralling performance… Grab tickets while you can, online available HERE!
