Jonathan Creasey will head up a new team delivering Christmas lights in St Peter Port this winter.

The retailer will lead the new organising committee which has pledged “an exciting and refreshed approach” to festive lighting.

He is joined by a new team of business owners, parish and government officials, and volunteers who are committed to a “community-driven display”.

Existing lighting is being restored and enhanced decorations are being considered for the town ahead of the switch-on ceremony on 30 November.

Flyers will soon be posted to households calling for donations and other support, with a QR code planned to make donating easier.

The committee is also searching for an administrator to volunteer a few hours a month to support the project.

Mr Creasy said the team is proud to take on the “iconic” festive tradition.

“Our team is full of energy and ideas, and we’re working hard behind the scenes to brighten up St Peter Port this year,” he said.

“We thank the outgoing Committee who have worked tirelessly for a number of years and look forward to building on the hard work they have put in to ensure the long-term future of the Christmas lights.”

“While St Peter Port is home to the lights, the whole island benefits from the wonderful atmosphere that they bring to the capital, we really want the entire community to feel connected.”

The new committee includes:

Steve Le Poidevin, owner of Balthazar

Victoria Taylor-Beard, Director of the Guernsey Retail Group

St Peter Constables Diane Mitchell and Ken Acott

Sonia Taylor, Director at Bailiwick Estates

Zoe Gosling, Lead Marketing Officer at the States

Wayne Bulpitt, Association of Guernsey Charities
