GAN SKILLSHARE: Frottage – The Discovery of Texture

In this skillshare, you will experiment with the ancient tradition of Frottage (textural rubbings).

Used for a variety of purposes, this practice has stretched across history and cultures, from forensic investigations, preservation of tomb carvings, to the adaptation from surrealists to expand consciousness.

The beauty of this technique is in the reveal… Max Ernst used this method to combat creative block, stating it as a “liberating procedure” by bringing “pure and unadulterated found objects to light”. Let’s feel the grain, through a mix of mediums and materials, and let the texture navigate our images.

We will experiment together rubbing various surfaces and utensils, then isolating, layering or exaggerating them to the desired point we wish.

There will be a variety of interesting surfaces to work with at the event, but please feel free to bring any materials you want to share and experiment with!

Please note tickets are £25 per person, pay on arrival.

Access is from the door in Fountain Street and that the inner street will be closed at this time.

Night Voices: Poetry and Spoken Word

Next Thursday the 9th of October from 7:30pm, Night Voices will be back upstairs at PingQuay’s!

“In partnership with Wild Wolf Wellbeing, we’ll be hosting another poetry and spoken word night, it’s a safe, inclusive and relaxed atmosphere.”

Spaces are limited, so we recommend getting there early if you want to get involved!
