Britanny Ferries Islander in St Peter Port Harbour, Guernsey Tuesday 8th July 2025

Anyone needing to travel urgently tomorrow can book in person with Brittany Ferries, subject to availability.

The ferry firm’s online booking systems have been down since a fire at an IBM data centre.

A spokesperson has said everything should be back to normal from tomorrow, but in the meantime in-person bookings can be made for urgent travel over the next 24-hours.

Brittany Ferries said anyone needing to travel to Guernsey tonight from Portsmouth or between Guernsey and the UK tomorrow can make bookings in person at the port offices, subject to availability.

You’ll need to be at Portsmouth Harbour two hours before tonight’s sailing to Guernsey, or at St Peter Port or Poole harbours two hours before tomorrow’s sailings.

The online outage was caused by a fire at the NorthC Data Centre in Almere, Netherlands, on Thursday 7 May.

No injuries were reported but the fire destroyed backup power systems and has caused significant data, network, and service outages for several days.

Earlier this week, a spokesperson for Brittany Ferries said that the problem would be fixed shortly.

“We are currently unable to access our reservations systems due to a fire in an IBM datacentre, IBM are working to resolve this, and we expect to regain access shortly,” they said on Tuesday.
