Potential passengers have been unable to book online with Brittany Ferries for the best part of a week, after an outage caused by a fire at a data centre last Thursday.

The blockage was noticed by members of the public ahead of the Liberation Day weekend, with people still unable to book.

A post on the Guernsey section of the Brittany Ferries website confirmed the ongoing situation.

“We are currently unable to access our reservations systems due to a fire in an IBM datacentre, IBM are working to resolve this, and we expect to regain access shortly. This means customers cannot make or amend bookings online or through our Contact Centre.

“Customers travelling today will be unaffected, but we remind you to arrive at the port at least 90 minutes before departure and have your booking reference/confirmation ready to provide at check-in.

“We will keep this page updated with information. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

When asked for further comment on the expected delay, Express was told that the ferry firm expected the problem to be fixed by the end of the day yesterday (11 May), and that it had “nothing further to add” to the statement posted online.

At the time of writing on Tuesday morning, the booking system remains unavailable.

The fire that caused the outage is believed to have happened at the NorthC Data Centre in Almere, Netherlands, on Thursday 7 May.

The blaze was brought under control by 20:50.

No injuries were reported but the fire destroyed backup power systems and has caused significant data, network, and service outages for several days.
