Music Theatre Guernsey’s will bring Broadway hit Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street to the stage of St James this summer.
Last year MTG performed Carrie the Musical starring mostly teenagers including Caleb Camp and Scar Stewart. Now it’s the turn of their respective parents, with Haley Camp taking on the role of Mrs Lovett and Ian Stewart becoming Todd himself.
The musical thriller about a 19th century London barber who goes on a murderous rampage has “attracted a wealth of fresh acting and singing talent,” said MTG founder Darren Alderton.
“Following the success of Carrie the Musical, it is no strange turn to be back in the
director’s chair for another dark production. It’s been a treat to work alongside Danny Madden, who makes his MTG Musical Director debut for this show. He has pieced together a full orchestral sound that really is the backbone of the storytelling,” he said.

Mr Stewart who will act the part of Todd both said he was both delighted and daunted to be involved.
“Juggling a busy day job with trying to learn so many lines and songs has been a real challenge but now that things are coming together, it is extremely rewarding and exciting.
Ms Camp says she has harboured an ambition to take on the role of pie-making entrepreneur Mrs Lovett ever since seeing her hero Imelda Staunton command the stage in the role.
“What other role provides the opportunity to play such a nuanced character in a
seemingly simplistic, sometimes pantomimish, way? On the surface, she’s simply a woman in love who will do anything for her man, but dig deeper and she’s a ruthless manipulator and an incredible social climber – a woman so narcissistic that she can gaslight even herself. Getting to bring Mrs Lovett to St James is going to rank as one of the greatest and most terrifying things I will ever do in my life. I only hope I can do her justice.”

There will be four performances in the main hall at St James.
