Guernsey Waste has launched a new ’25 Days of Christmas Reduce, Reuse & Recycle’ Advent Calendar to help islanders recycle right throughout the festive season.
From 1–25 December, a daily post will be shared on Recycle for Guernsey’s social media pages, each highlighting a common Christmas item — such as wrapping paper, plastic wrapping and packaging, and food waste tips — along with clear guidance on how to recycle correctly in Guernsey.
The campaign aims to reduce contamination in kerbside recycling, cut unnecessary waste, and support households in making small, positive changes during one of the busiest waste periods of the year.
Douglas Button from Guernsey Waste said: “The festive season is a wonderful time of year, but it’s also one of the busiest for waste. Before buying anything, we’re encouraging Islanders to pause and think: Do I really need this? Can it be reused or repurposed? Is it recyclable here in Guernsey? Small choices made at the point of purchase can make a big difference later on. By choosing items with a second life, buying only what we need, and avoiding products that can’t be recycled, we can all help reduce waste and make this a more sustainable Christmas for our island.”
Islanders are encouraged to follow the calendar using our handle ‘Recycle for Guernsey’ on Facebook, Instagram and X (Twitter) and to check in each day for simple festive recycling tips that make a real difference.
