The GSPCA was delighted to welcome Lizzie Dodgson from Byotrol to the shelter last Wednesday for a full day of specialist training focused on COSHH, safe and effective use of disinfectants, good hygiene practices, and zoonotic disease awareness.
Lizzie also spent time working alongside the GSPCA team, offering hands-on guidance and supporting staff and volunteers in their daily routines.
The training forms part of the GSPCA’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of animal care, team safety, and biosecurity across all areas of the organisation. With thousands of animals passing through the shelter each year, robust hygiene and disease prevention procedures are essential in protecting both animals and the people who care for them.
Byotrol shared their experience on their LinkedIn page, writing:
“Lizzie Dodgson was in beautiful Guernsey yesterday, teaching the dedicated team of staff and volunteers at Guernsey GSPCA how to improve biosecurity and use ANIGENE products safely, effectively and more sustainably. Biosecurity plays a crucial role in welfare environments, ensuring the health and safety of both animals and staff. Implementing effective biosecurity protocols can be a challenge, but training your staff effectively can significantly lower the risk of outbreaks of infectious diseases and create a safer working environment for everyone. Are you interested in tailored biosecurity training for your team? Contact us today to learn how we can support your facility. Special thanks to Tim P., Steve Byrne and all the team at the Guernsey GSPCA for being so engaged with the training.”
The session provided the team with valuable updates on best practice, new techniques for infection control, and practical advice on using ANIGENE products more sustainably — supporting both animal welfare and environmental responsibility.
Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said:
“We are extremely grateful to Lizzie and the team at Byotrol for providing such informative and engaging training. Ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and biosecurity is crucial to the work we do every day, and the knowledge shared will make a real difference across our operations. Lizzie’s hands-on approach and willingness to work alongside the team was greatly appreciated, and we look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Byotrol. A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising and attending the session.”
The GSPCA continues to invest in staff development to ensure the charity provides the safest and healthiest environment possible for animals, volunteers, staff, and visitors.
