The building site of the new GSPCA wildlife hospital with the buildings built

The GSPCA reached one of its “most significant milestones” so far last week, as the concrete foundations for its new kennel were poured.

The work marks a concrete step towards the GSPCA’s future, and the latest stage in redeveloping the site as part of the charity’s #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal.

To celebrate how far the project has come, the GSPCA is planning a special event next month to showcase the progress of the build and thank those who have helped make it possible.

Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said it was “incredible to see” the progress.

He added: “Last week’s main concrete pour was a major milestone and means we are another huge step closer to providing much-needed facilities for the animals in our care.

“Alongside this, the Wildlife Hospital continues to be fitted out and every week we can see the vision becoming a reality. We would like to thank Breton, all of the contractors, our supporters, donors and volunteers who have helped us get this far.

“Whether you are an individual, community group or business, there are many different ways you can become part of this exciting future.”

Lasting legacy

The latest progress showed the hard work of Breton, contractors, suppliers, supporters and all those involved in making these vital facilities a reality for the animals of Guernsey, Mr Byrne said.

The new Wildlife Hospital will be the first facility of its kind in the Channel Islands and will help the more than 3,000 wild animals that come through the GSPCA’s doors every year.

Mr Bryne added: “Every day we see first-hand how much these new facilities are needed. Together we can create a lasting legacy for Guernsey’s animals and wildlife.”
