St Martin’s Constables have issued a plea to whoever is dropping butternut squash into one of the parish’s streams, to stop doing it.

Taking to Facebook with their request, the Constables have said every few months someone drops one or more of the hard skinned fruit into a stream which runs along La Fosse de Bas.

“Please can the person refrain from doing this as it attracts rats,” urged the Constables.

Constable Dave Beausire told Express that “it’s been happening every few months for a year and it attracts vermin.

“They have just been purchased, shop stickers are still on them, it’s not rotten veg that’s getting dumped,” he added.

The bizarre situation has been unfolding in the stream along La Fosse de Bas, that runs downhill towards the sea at Moulin Huet.

The residential area is a popular location for walkers and cyclists.

It’s understood the latest incident occurred on Sunday with a member of the public saying they saw one then.
