Guernsey’s annual Donkey Derby will returning to Saumarez Park on Saturday, with the much-loved community event celebrating its 55th year.

Thousands of islanders have flocked to the Derby over the decades, with this year’s event promising donkey races, food and craft stalls, children’s attractions, charity stands and live music.

Among the hotly-contested races will be the Sulky Media Race, which sees Express saddle up against rival local media outlets in a battle for newsroom bragging rights.

Paul Allaway, President of organisers the Lions Club of Guernsey, said the aim was to bring the community together for “a proper Guernsey Summer park day” while raising money for local charitable causes.

The volunteer-run charity said funds raised from the Derby support a range of local projects spanning health, education, social welfare and environmental initiatives.

Held at Saumarez Park on Saturday 22 August, organisers are hoping islanders will once again trot along in their thousands for a day of family fun and fundraising.

Entry is FREE with parking available for £5.
