He pleaded guilty to common assault and resisting arrest. He was ordered to pay £250 compensation to a female police officer.

Cipriani was arrested early on Wednesday morning after the incident, and his defence advocate said he was “mortified if he harmed the police officer in any way.”

He has seven days to pay the fine and compensation, or face 10 weeks in prison.

Gloucester Rugby Club said they were “aware of the incident” and will make a further announcement in due course.
