Witches, wizards, dragons and some of Guernsey’s darkest tales are taking over Candie Museum for two days of Halloween fun.

Freaky Friday and Spooky Saturday, taking place on 30 and 31 October, will offer a mix of family-friendly activities and spooky local history.

This year’s theme is ‘The Museum of Witchcraft, Wizardry, Magic and Mystery’, with activities including wand weaving with Wise Woman Willow, slime making with the Potion Masters and plenty more.

Children can learn about the magical creatures of Bailiwick folklore with the History of Magical Creatures team, complete a Dragon Egg Garden Trail and even be in with a chance of winning their own ‘baby dragon’.

Miffy Lane, Access and Learning Manager at Guernsey Museums, said: “We are so looking forward to welcoming our visitors once again to this magical event.

“It’s one of our favourite times of year, we love to see the museum full of witches, wizards, ghouls and goblins…and don’t forget it’s free entry to children in full fancy dress – and we especially love a home-made creation.

“With our current Brick History exhibition also on display, it really is a perfect time for families to come and enjoy all we have to offer.”

Visitors will also get to meet Bill, a special ‘Golden Guest’, on Spooky Saturday and discover the role goats play in Guernsey’s spooky folklore.

Younger visitors can enjoy a ‘Room on the Broom’ Witching Hour at 10:30, featuring a film screening and a family reading of the modern classic in Guernesiais.

For older children and adults, the ‘Dark Histories’ Living History Series will explore some of the island’s darker and more mysterious stories through performances and guided walks.

Starting at 11:30 with ‘Guernsey Folklore’, the programme will run throughout the day, culminating in ‘Plants, Poisons & Ghostly Goings On’, a Halloween walk through Candie Gardens.

An Edwardian gardener will reveal the secrets of poisonous plants and some of the area’s darkest tales.

Standard museum admission applies, with free entry for Discovery Pass holders and children in full fancy dress.

All activities are included in the admission price.
