The plans include a spa and restaurant, but there are a number of boxes to tick before construction can start. There needs to be a site waste management plan and protection arrangements for trees in the area, amoung other stipulations.

The hotel fell into disrepair back in 2003 after a kitchen fire. It has been abandoned ever since, with another fire in 2012 following suspected arson. The incident saw 9 people arrested.

The development will need to start within 3 years or the planning permission becomes void. Lovell Ozanne has been heavily involved, and the Architect firm developed the original plans for the hotel’s redevelopment.

“We’re very confident and hopeful for work to start in the near future,” said Director, Andrew Merrett.

The delays have been blamed on Guernsey’s tourism market and a want by the developer for an increase in tourism.

“It’s all about the tourist market over the years, it hasn’t been big enough to warrant the redevelopment until now. However, with the current global situation, who knows what the future holds.”
