The developer has said the project will provide “significant employment opportunities” through both the design and construction phases before it is open for business, which will bring its own opportunities, while representing “a significant financial investment in the Guernsey tourism market.”
The currently derelict property occupies a visible location on the cliff edge at Jerbourg. It was devastated by fire, with a second fire causing further damage to the structure. It has been out of bounds for many years with signs warning the public of the dangers on the site.
The formerly popular wedding reception location could now be replaced by what is described as a “boutique hotel” with the Planning report identifying the proposed replacement building as “of a high quality design.” The report also noted that the “outstanding natural beauty of the site has been the key inspiration for the design of this exceptional development” and that the proposed replacement building is “as unique as the site”, saying that it “draws on the natural landscape to shape its form and materials.”
As architects for the scheme Lovell Ozanne Ltd said it is “very pleased that the planning application has been approved by the planning department and we look forward to taking instruction from our client with regards the next stage in the development process.”
