Internationally-acclaimed musical ‘Come From Away’ is being performed in Guernsey this month.

The musical tells the true story of the small Newfoundland town of Gander, whose residents suddenly found themselves welcoming thousands of unexpected visitors from around the world on 9 September 2001.

38 aircraft were diverted to the town, with almost 7,000 passengers and crew joining the resident population of around 10,000 for a few days.

With hotels and other facilities unable to accommodate everyone, people opened their homes, schools, churches, transportation, kitchens and community spaces to the frightened and exhausted strangers, and did whatever was needed to make their unexpected guests feel safe and welcome.

Featuring a score that blends Broadway storytelling with the foot-stomping charm of Celtic-infused Newfoundland folk, the musical tells the story of strangers thrown together by catastrophe, and the community that answers fear with friendship.

“Come From Away is filled with music, humour, warmth and hope, but it is also rooted in real events and real people; this production honours both the tragedy of that day and the remarkable compassion that followed it,” said GADOC Director Lisa Johnston.

Come From Away will run from Saturday 17 – Friday 23 October and tickets are available to book HERE or via Beau Sejour’s box office.
