Year 12 Art students from Beaulieu Convent School have become the first to take part in the States Assembly’s new ‘Art in the Chamber’ initiative, launched as part of Jersey’s Democracy Week.
By permission of the Bailiff, Robert MacRae, the students had the opportunity to hear about the building’s Victorian architecture, the Island’s constitutional development and the roles and responsibilities of the Bailiff, Governor and States Members.

The visit coincided with an art project the students are currently working on entitled Our Island.
Beaulieu’s head of art and photography, Sacha Goodwin, said: “This was an incredible opportunity to have the time and space to observe and absorb the atmosphere of this remarkable place.
“This visit has instilled a sense of belonging and history within the students that transcends Art and connects them to generations of Island decision-makers.”
Other schools and art groups interested in participating can contact the Education and Outreach Team at getinvolved@gov.je.
