The Princess Royal secured her place in Sark’s history books during her visit to mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day.
She is the first member of the British Royal Family to make an official visit to Little Sark.
She flew in by helicopter, landing in Little Sark, accompanied by her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, and Guernsey’s Lieutenant Governor.
The Royal couple met island dignitaries and members of the public in Little Sark, before crossing La Coupée to meet more people in ‘big’ Sark.
The Seigneur, Major Christopher Beaumont showed the couple around Sark, and introduced them to member’s of the island’s war time community who had stayed in Sark under German occupation along with his great – grandmother; Dame Sibyl Hathaway.
Ghurkas and Chelsea Pensioners were among the serving and veteran military personnel introduced to Her Royal Highness as she attended a street party held along the Avenue to mark Sark’s 80th Liberation Day on 10 May.
The Princess Royal also visited the Sark Observatory – the first member of her family to do so since it opened.
