June, a cross-breed, has been named as the ‘Best in Show’ at Guernsey’s 2025 Dog Show.
Held as part of the annual South Show, the Fun Dog Show was hosted by the GSPCA with charity manager Steve Byrne joined on the judging panel by assistants Ellen, Bear, Isaac, and Dylan.
They had nearly 40 entries to assess in different categories including for younger and older dogs, as well as rescue dogs, dogs in fancy dress, and dogs who look most like their owner.
As well as entertaining those watching, the Dog Show and GSPCA stall at the South Show helped raise hundreds of pounds for the charity.
“What a great few days we had at the South Show last weekend,” said Mr Byrne.
“With a stall inside the St Martins Community Centre on the Friday, and on the Saturday our GSPCA stall in the field with the Fun Dog Show we raised an incredible £650.”

“This is the third year the GSPCA has run the Fun Dog Show for the South Show and we had an incredible 40 dogs entered,” said Mr Byrne, after completing his judging duties.
“The Fun Dog Show was great and thank you to Ellen, Bear, Issac, and Dylan who helped judge all the dogs.
“The Best in Show was June a cross breed owned by Olivia and Anna a Spanish Rescue Dog, who won Best Fancy Dress, was awarded the South Show Cup kindly donated by Forest Stores.”
Other winners on the day included Bailey a life-saving Labrador.
“Best Male was Bailey a Labrador who gives blood helping save other dogs and lives locally. We had so many wonderful stories especially the rescue class,” said Mr Byrne.

The money the GSPCA raised at last week’s South Show, this week’s West Show, the Donkey Derby this weekend, and next week’s North Show, is all going towards the GSPCA’s ‘Big Build Appeal’, said Mr Byrne.
“We are at the West Show this week and have a Flag Day on Saturday, and we want to do a stall at the Donkey Derby. If anyone can help please call 257261 or email steve@gspca.org.gg.
“With more than £2,200,000 still to raise we really need support for the Big Build,” he added.
“A huge thank you to the South Show, all our volunteers that helped, those that supported and a special thanks to all the dogs that came along.”
The GSPCA is hosting another ‘Fun Dog Show’ on 14 September at the Charities Seafront Sunday.
“There will be another chance for our canine friends to have fun and a chance to win one of our amazing GSPCA Dog Show Rosettes which we at the least award to the top five dogs as chosen by the judge or judges,” explained Mr Byrne.
