As the summer season begins and more people take to the water, Guernsey Coastguard is reminding all boat owners and water users to follow three key principles to stay safe at sea: Prepare, Provide, and Perform.

Acting Harbourmaster James Way, said: “With longer days and warmer weather, many
people across the Bailiwick will be preparing to enjoy time on the water and around the
coast. Whether you are heading out for a day’s fishing, sailing, or simply enjoying our
beautiful coastline, it’s vital to plan ahead.

“By following the ‘3 Ps – Prepare, Provide, and Perform’ – boat owners can not only reduce the risk of getting into difficulty, but also improve their chances of rescue if something does go wrong.”

Guernsey Coastguard also encourages anyone going to sea to regularly refresh their
knowledge of safe boating practices and emergency procedures.
