With just today left for anyone wanting to take part in the post box consultation, Guernsey Post has confirmed any redundant boxes will be closed, but not removed.
Despite concerns raised by some members of the public including one Express reader who had gone to great lengths to find out the history behind some of the island’s post boxes, Guernsey Post has said the actual boxes will stay in place even if they are removed from use.
The consultation on whether or not to close nearly 100 post boxes is open until the end of today for any final responses. The answers will be used by the utility to decided which and how many boxes stay in use, or become a thing of the past.
A Guernsey Post spokesperson said the consultation has already had hundreds of responses, that will help shape the outcome.
“We appreciate the nearly 400 responses received so far and are carefully reviewing all feedback ahead of the consultation closing on Friday 12 September.
The spokesperson continued: “Every view that has been shared is genuinely valued and will help shape any final decisions”.

Following the publication of Stephen Orme’s letter, which looked to shed light on the history that surrounds each and every one of the post boxes locally, Guernsey Post has confirmed that the boxes are to be closed, but not scrapped.
“We would like to clarify that the consultation is about the potential closure of post boxes for operational use, not the removal boxes, as has been suggested.
“Many boxes will remain in place to preserve their heritage and historical value.”
