Work will start this week to close 83 of Guernsey’s post boxes.
The boxes themselves will be remaining in place but they will be blocked with notices put up explaining that they are closed and where the nearest operational post box is.
Once they have all been removed from public use, 59 will remain open across the island, with the majority in St Peter Port which is the most densely populated parish, and the location of many businesses.
Guernsey Post said closing 83 post boxes will ensure services remain “efficient, sustainable and fit for the future” as it continues to face declining letter volumes.

A full list of the post boxes that will remain in service is available at guernseypost.com/postboxes.
All remaining post boxes will have updated collection times, which will be clearly displayed on each box.
The new collection times will take effect from Monday 3 November, and the boxes scheduled for closure will be sealed during the course of the week.
As part of the changes to Guernsey’s post box network, some others are being relocated.
This includes Box 139 which is currently on Jerbourg Road and will be relocated to Manor Stores to improve accessibility in that area.
Following strong feedback from residents near Box 95 on Rocquaine Road, Guernsey Post has said it decided not to proceed with its relocation, and the box will remain in its current position.
For Box 115 at Rue Sauvage, Guernsey Post was unable to secure the preferred relocation site, so the box will remain in place for the time being.
