Anyone wanting to have their say on the removal of nearly 100 postboxes has until tomorrow to do so.

Guernsey Post is proposing to reduce the number of roadside post boxes on the island from 141 to 45.

Some people are against those plans, including Express reader Stephen Orme, who has said it will “destroy the island’s heritage”.

The company has stated that the proposed removal of 96 postboxes is due to a significant decline in usage, with two-thirds of the boxes targeted for removal receiving an average of five or fewer items a day.

The public consultation period began on 15 August and is set to close tomorrow, on 12 September. The company is encouraging islanders to provide feedback to help shape the final decision.

The company’s CEO, Steve Sheridan, had previously said that the proposal is part of a “transformation programme” to ensure the postal service remains efficient and sustainable.

Key community locations, such as those near shops and banks, will have their post boxes retained.

You can have your say on the closure of post boxes online, on the Guernsey Post website HERE.
