A charity is using World Homeless Day tomorrow to remind us that homelessness is a significant problem in Guernsey.
At Home in Guernsey has set up six temporary installations, each telling a different story about homelessness and what it looks like, to help build wider understanding of the issue and what support is available for those personally affected.
The pop-up installations, which includes sofas in Market Square and by the Liberation Monument, sleeping bags in the doorway of Lloyds bank branches, and tents at both Waitrose stores, were set up this morning and will stay in place over the weekend.
Each installation includes a real story of someone that has experienced homelessness locally.

Charlie Cox, CEO of At Home In Guernsey, said they’ve been designed to make people think and talk.
“World Homeless Day is an important moment to pause, reflect and talk honestly about homelessness on our island.
“Homelessness can happen to anyone, and by challenging misconceptions and starting more compassionate conversations, we can help build a community where everyone has the chance to feel safe, supported and at home.”
The pop-up campaign has gained significant local support, including from the charity’s principal sponsor Specsavers, which is also providing free eye and hearing care for Guernsey people experiencing homelessness in its Market Street store.
Michael Todd, Director of Optics and Audiology at the store, said it’s something the company is proud to offer.
“We know that people experiencing homelessness can face significant barriers when it comes to accessing healthcare.
“This scheme matches what Specsavers is doing nationally. We’re encouraged that some in our community have already benefited from it and we hope it will make a meaningful difference to more people across our island community in the future.”
At Home In Guernsey wanted to thank the various partners that have supported this project.
