One of Guernsey’s newer hedge veg stalls has been ripped apart and items are missing from it.
The owners of the ‘Blue Chicken House Bakery’ at the Brock Road/Doyle Road junction woke up this morning to find the honesty box had been damaged overnight.
They’ve appealed for anyone who lives near by or may have been passing to check their CCTV, ring doorbell, or dashcam footage to try and find out who is responsible.
As well as the damage to the stall itself, the cash box has been torn off the wall and the card reader and a camera have been taken.
The owners have estimated the damage to be worth “hundreds of pounds”.
The damage and missing items have been reported to Guernsey Police.
“Our honesty box was built on trust, using cookies made with Guernsey butter and Guernsey eggs,” they wrote on Facebook. “It’s something we’re incredibly proud of, and it’s sad to think that one selfish act could put things like this at risk.
“If you have any footage, remember seeing anything unusual or know someone nearby with cameras, please send us a message. Even something that seems insignificant could make all the difference.”

There have been at least two other incidents involving hedge veg stalls that Express is aware of this week alone.
A stall selling toys in St Martin’s had some items taken without being fully paid for, but that may have been a mistake. The owner used Facebook to appeal to the parents of the children who bought them to make up the difference.
Another stall reported items being taken and not paid for at all, and urged the person to return and pay up.
