Guernsey’s government-owned airline, Aurigny, has announced the arrival of a second permanent plane, saying it will give Alderney residents more reliable transport links.
The Twin Otter planes, which will continue to be operated by Skybus on Aurigny’s behalf, will fly the island’s ‘lifeline’ routes to Guernsey and Southampton.
An airline spokesperson said the arrival of the second plane will help provide “the highest level of technical back up in the recent history of Alderney air services”.
“In the event of one aircraft experiencing technical issues, then the second aircraft will be able to take over operations with minimal, if any, delays,” the added.
The previous Dornier planes were only both available for about two-thirds of the year, they said, “as one of the two aircraft would require a significant engineering overhaul for long periods at a time”.
The first Twin Otter flight to Alderney was last November, with the final Dornier leaving the island in February.
