The GSPCA has announced that the small reptile, believed to be a Common Wall Gecko, (Tarentola Mauritancia), has found its forever home on the island.
Earlier this year, the charity responded to a report of a reptile at Jeffery’s Petrol Forecourt.
Named Rosey, it’s believed she might not be the only one of her kind on Island, with the Manager of the GSPCA, Steve Byrne, stating, “This small lizard was accepted by one of our team, Seb Goman, and was placed in a quarantine area, as they aren’t native to Guernsey but we believe there may be others.”
“If you have seen a small lizard like Rosey please do let us know as we’d love to hear from you as we have had reports there may be others living in Guernsey.”
So far in 2025 the GSPCA has had to help an uninvited Grey Squirrel, and another unexpected reptile, when Maximillian the Madeiran Lizard, found its way to Guernsey in someone’s luggage.

Mr Byrne continued, by saying there’s only one species of reptile truly native to the Island, “The only indigenous reptile, on speaking to the States of Guernsey Invasive Species team, is the slow worm and although reports of others have been mentioned over the years those not a slow worm have somehow made their way to Guernsey.”
According to Mr Byrne, Rosey has now found her forever home, following a period of mandatory isolation, “We are delighted after her time in quarantine that Rosey is now in a loving new home.”
