They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but local artists will be hoping their cover designs are a hit with the judges of a new competition.

Next year’s Guernsey Short Story Anthology is inviting local artists and designers to submit their designs for the cover.

The Guernsey Literary Festival and Art for Guernsey are inviting local artists to submit artwork for the cover of ‘Small Treasures’, the second volume of the anthology.

Artists are invited to respond to this year’s theme, ‘Small Treasures’, which explores the hidden value in the smallest things, from a lost object or fleeting moment to a quiet act of kindness.

Ruth Thomason, Anthology Organiser, said: “It was wonderful to see the first anthology bring together the Bailiwick’s writing and artistic communities, and we’re delighted to do that again for our second volume.

“Small Treasures is a theme with so much potential for both writers and artists. We’re looking forward to seeing the different ways artists interpret it, and ultimately to one of those pieces appearing on the front of the anthology.

“It will be another real celebration of local creativity.”

Following the success of the first anthology, ‘Time & Tide’, the new collection will bring together 20 stories by writers with a connection to the Bailiwick and will be launched at the 2027 Guernsey Literary Festival.

David Ummels, Founder and Chairman of Art for Guernsey, said: “It is always a pleasure to collaborate with our friends at the Guernsey Literary Festival, and it’s fantastic that we have such a wealth of creative talent on the island.

“Small Treasures is an inspiring theme, and the Art for Guernsey team is very much looking forward to discovering how artists choose to interpret it.”

Artwork can be created in any medium and the deadline for art submissions is 30 November.
