Police Chief Ruari Hardy said that Mr Addis, who served in the force for eight years before moving to the UK, was “a leading light in the area of community policing and public engagement”.
“It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of our former colleague and friend Karl Addis, who has died in the UK after a short illness,” said Mr Hardy.
“Karl built up many positive networks with youth groups and third sector organisations and I am sure had a positive impact upon many people within the Bailiwick.
“He specifically supported restorative justice and sought to divert young people from the criminal justice system.”

On social media, former Inspector Karl Zierlinger, who served in the force for 30 years before retiring last year, said: “[Karl] did some great work in the schools and amongst the younger community, which I’m sure was invaluable and much needed. A genuinely nice guy who cared about his community and also who had an obvious love for football.”
Mr Addis coached Rovers’ Priaulx League team between 2013 and 2015. More recently, he took on coaching roles in the Midlands with Feckenham and Redditch Borough.
Mr Hardy said: “Outside his work, he was a passionate and respected local football coach.
“Our condolences, thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
“He will be fondly remembered for his service to our community while he served as a Police Constable in Guernsey Police.”
