The transformation of La Grande Mare Country Club has passed a major milestone, with the team confirming the redeveloped golf course is on track to open this summer.
Less than two months after the new Golf Performance Centre opened, the steel frame of the country club building is now nearing completion, giving islanders a clear first glimpse of what the finished development will look like.
The ambitious project will eventually house a gym, a 25-metre swimming pool, restaurant, function rooms and new golf club facilities, alongside the fully remodelled course.
Operations Manager Fay Boyd said progress on the build had been encouraging, despite the complexity of the development.
“As islanders will have seen, the framework for the country club has been erected, and it’s fantastic to see a glimpse of what the building will look like once complete,” she said.
“It’s a complex project with all the groundworks and services required for the gym, 25-metre swimming pool, restaurant, function rooms and the golf club, but it is going well. Work will soon commence on making the structure wind and water tight.”
While construction continues on the main building, attention is also turning to the golf course itself, which has undergone extensive remodelling.
Mrs Boyd confirmed that the course is planned to reopen in August, but said time is needed for the landscaping work to fully settle.
“While the work on the course has finished, the vastness of the remodelling means that the whole course has to settle and the greens and fairways have to be well-established,” she said.
“We will be making further announcements on the course as we move closer to the scheduled opening.”
The opening of the Golf Performance Centre on 1 November has already sparked renewed interest in the wider La Grande Mare project, according to the team behind it.
Mrs Boyd said the response from former members, neighbours and the wider community had exceeded expectations.
“Interest in the golf offering has definitely increased now that people have seen the standard of the Golf Performance Centre,” she said, adding: “Our team is now working on some new initiatives that will allow golfers to improve their game over the winter months, ready for the new season.”
“Our strapline is ‘always extraordinary’ – and that’s what we want to help golfers become,” Mrs Boyd said.
