La Grande Mare has announced two new appointments as it prepares to open its Golf Performance Centre to the public on Saturday.

Sue Shapcott, PhD, PGA, has joined as Golf Performance Director, while Monty Wyatt has been appointed Golf Assistant.

An accomplished golf professional, Ms Shapcott moved to Guernsey from the USA earlier this month to take up the newly-created role. She will help to manage the new facility and train golf staff.

Mr Wyatt will be responsible for supporting Ms Shapcott with the day-to-day running of the Centre. He has previously represented Guernsey competitively in Junior Inter-insular golf.

“I am thrilled to be joining the La Grande Mare team at such a pivotal time,” said Ms Shapcott. “I have a fond affection for Guernsey, having spent much of my childhood here, so it’s great to be back to head up the Golf Performance Centre.

“The technology we have here at the facility is some of the best I’ve ever worked with and, alongside Monty, I’m looking forward to encouraging more islanders to improve their golf while enjoying the many benefits the sport delivers.”

Steve Lansdown, CBE, owner of La Grande Mare, said: “From the very start of the project, I have been vocal about my commitment to raising the bar for sport here in Guernsey and Sue and Monty’s appointments are testament to that pledge. Sue’s international track record in delivering exceptional golf instruction will be of enormous benefit to those looking to develop their game. We are extremely pleased that Sue is joining the Golf Performance Centre at such an exciting time.

“These new appointments also underpin our commitment to supporting local jobs and providing islanders with the chance to grow their careers with us here at La Grande Mare. We are delighted to welcome Monty to the team, and look forward to seeing him develop his professional skills while supporting Sue in delivering an always extraordinary experience to visitors.”

The Golf Performance Centre is the first major milestone in La Grande Mare’s phased transformation into a world-class Country Club.

Purpose-built, it features 10 covered performance bays, dedicated instruction suites, and a custom club-fitting studio. On-island instruction is supported by performance technology that gives every player data and statistics for their own improvement.
