The DPA has been told that Le Mont Saint is the only viable option for installing a mobile phone mast to serve customers’ needs in that part of the island.

A planning application to install a 12m replica telegraph monopole there has been resubmitted after the architects behind the plans spent more time researching the location in light of feedback previously given.

MS Planning – a Jersey based company – has looked at alternative options in the area but concluded that Le Mont Saint is the optimum choice.

“Le Mont Saint Garage was identified as the optimal location for addressing all coverage requirements, with a single monopole.

“Sure currently operates a micro site at the garage, providing localised coverage. The proposal is to upgrade this to a 12m replica telegraph monopole, serving both Sure and Airtel customers.”

If the Development and Planning Authority approves the application, the pole will maintain coverage for St Saviour’s Reservoir and improve coverage and capacity for Perelle, La Grand Mare, and La Houguette, said MS Planning.

It also says that allowing the monopole to be installed at Le Mont Saint will utilise an already developed site with existing mains power and fibre connectivity, and it will only require a small footprint with no need for a large compound.

“…the proposal represents the best practicable option, taking into account all relevant economic, social, and environmental considerations, and there are no more suitable sites for the proposed development,” wrote MS Planning in its application letter.
