The Rainbow Chorus is a new choir that will involve “both singing and movement” for people who want to give it a go.

The choir’s musical director Darren Alderton said the group will be singing a range of current music and hit anthems that inspire pride and celebration of self, with one of the aims being to play on the Channel Islands Pride stage in 2020 when the event returns to Guernsey.

“You don’t need to be LGBTQ+ to join, you just need to have an open heart and mind,” he said. “If you have ever wanted a great, friendly way to kickstart your weekend then, we have the answer for you! The ethos of this choir is fun, so even if you’ve never sung before or keep those blissful tones to just the shower, then this is definitely the place for you.”

The group will meet most Fridays at 19:30 with the first meeting tonight, Friday 12 April, at the GTA University Centre in St Peter Port.

“Singing together as a group is a happy place to be in,” said choir member David. “Singing has great benefits and reaches the places where other things cannot reach. It provides great camaraderie with a shared interest. It’s also known to reduce stress, improve mood, and generally brings more fun into a person’s day. Come and experience it as there are other physical, emotional, social, and psychological benefits associated with singing that you may not realise.”
