Ever wanted to step inside a real-life marine ambulance? Now’s your chance…
The Flying Christine III will be docking in Braye Harbour next Friday as part of Alderney Week celebrations, and islanders and visitors are being invited to come aboard for a special behind-the-scenes tour.
The event marks the 30th anniversary of the much-loved marine ambulance, which provides an essential, 24/7 lifeline to the Bailiwick.
Crewed entirely by volunteers, the Flying Christine III delivers emergency paramedic care across the islands and has helped save countless lives.
It responded to nine Alderney cases in 2024, and four so far this year.
The island’s brand-new Emergency Ambulance will also be on display, replacing a vehicle that had served the community for over 20 years.
A spokesperson for Ambulance and Rescue said they hoped “as many people as possible will come along and say hello”.
As well as exploring the new vehicle and marine ambulance, attendees will also be able to meet the crew, staff and volunteers who “will demonstrate how cutting-edge technology will speed up treatment times and ensure Alderney continues to receive the highest standard of pre-hospital care”.
“Flying Christine III is a charitable asset, funded partly by sponsorship and donations. We are extremely grateful for the support we receive from all the islands, so as we mark 30 years of this marine ambulance we wanted to give people in all the Bailiwick islands the opportunity to come onboard, meet the crew and share in our celebrations,” the spokesperson added.
