Business leaders are reiterating their call for the new States to work together, because the challenges facing Guernsey can’t be ignored anymore.
The G8 is a coalition of eight business and community organisations, including the Association of Guernsey Charities, finance groups, the retail and construction sectors, and hospitality.
“Business groups have collaborated over the years, but actually, this is the first time so many have come together to collaborate, and it’s also the first time that we’ve commissioned our fairly comprehensive ‘Voice of Guernsey’ business survey to say what really are the big hot topics from a business community, and the charity sector,” said Glen Tonks, the Chair of the IoD.
Mr Tonks will be among the guest speakers at the Chamber of Commerce lunch tomorrow – which a number of candidates are expected to attend, where the ‘Voice of Business’ study is to be discussed.
That study comprised surveys shared with thousands of people. The responses were used to form the six priorities the G8 has set for the next States to focus on.

“The challenges are fairly broad and diverse I mean, from the aging population to a structural and growing fiscal deficit to economic stagnation and under investing in infrastructure. So there’s many challenges there that we can’t ignore. So really what we’re saying is actually we need to work together, but we actually need to deliver. Ultimately, what we’re calling for here is it’s time to deliver.”
