More than £373,000 has been awarded to projects supporting children, young people and families across Guernsey and Alderney by the Channel Islands Lottery.

The funding, distributed by the Social Investment Fund (SIF), will help organisations provide everything from sports and youth activities to educational opportunities, accessibility projects and early years support.

Steve Sharman, SIF Chair, said the money would help charities and community groups continue providing opportunities and support for young islanders.

“From sports and education to accessibility and wellbeing, these projects help young people develop skills, confidence and connections that can have a lifelong impact,” he said.

Among the biggest awards were more than £103,000 for the Guernsey Sports Commission’s On Your Marks holiday programme over the next three years and £100,000 for The Village @ Le Murier to help build cabins where young people with additional needs can develop independent living skills.

The Lihou Charity received £52,500 to continue funding its manager role, while the Bailiwick Scout Association was awarded £25,500 towards rewiring works at the Rue Mainguy hostel.

Other beneficiaries include pre-schools, sports clubs, sailing programmes, football initiatives and community projects in both Guernsey and Alderney.

Jon Taylor, Head of Channel Islands Lottery, said the funding highlighted how money raised through ticket sales was reinvested into local communities.

“The breadth of organisations receiving support this year demonstrates the enormous value of the third sector and the positive impact that Lottery funding continues to have across the Bailiwick,” he said.
