A man arrested over the weekend on suspicion of making threats to kill other people has pleaded guilty to telecoms offences.

The 35-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning, and appeared before the Magistrate’s Court today, where he was remanded in custody until 4 June.

The court heard that Nico Roger Dormer of no fixed address has been in the island working as a carpenter.

His licence to live and work in the island is coming to an end on Saturday.

Originally arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill other people, Dormer was charged with two telecoms offences.

The charges relate to messages sent to two other people in Guernsey.

The situation leading up to his arrest has been widely discussed on social media, with the Chief Officer of Guernsey Police making a public statement on the matter yesterday.

Damian Kitchen said, while the police enquiry was ongoing, “a huge amount of speculation took place on social media, some of which amounted to nothing more than misinformation”.
