Police are reviewing footage of crowd trouble involving a small minority of supporters at Saturday’s Muratti Vase game at Springfield.
In the aftermath of a 2-1 victory for Guernsey in the men’s Muratti, there were ugly scenes as a cluster of visiting supporters came onto the pitch and goaded their Jersey counterparts.
While no arrests have been made so far, a police investigation is ongoing.
The Jersey Football Association has confirmed that one steward suffered a gashed leg while dealing with the scuffling supporters, and that Springfield’s all-weather pitch had been slightly damaged by one of the flares that was let off.
Pictures and videos of what happened were widely circulated on social media and messaging apps over the weekend, and will play a part in the investigation, police confirmed.
Among the images were supporters massing in front of their rivals, a wheely-bin being hurled, and punches thrown.
A spokesperson for the States of Jersey Police said: “Officers and event staff concentrated on separating fans and restoring order, which was done quickly – no persons have come forward to police to report any offence.
“No arrests made by the States of Jersey Police at this stage – police will be reviewing CCTV, drone footage and third-party material in due course.”
Jersey FA chief executive Tim Pryor told Express that the organisation will be supporting the police in their review into what happened.
“We had almost 1,500 people here, and the majority of supporters were well-behaved but were let down by a minority who crossed the line at the end of the game,” he said.
“It leaves a sour taste in the mouth after what had been an excellent contest on the pitch.
“We will work with the police over the coming days – I would hope something is done, but it’s not for me to say what action should be taken.”
